Apartment cats in Sharjah spend a lot of time looking at the balcony. In the towers of Al Majaz and Al Qasimia, and the apartment buildings of Muwaileh, the balcony door is usually a sealed glass slider — wonderful for the view and the air conditioning, useless for a cat who wants to come and go. Cat flap fitting in Sharjah solves that by putting a flap into the balcony glass itself, fitted in a way that suits rented tower homes as much as owned ones.
For cat flap installation Sharjah’s towers set three rules — nothing cut, nothing permanent, and a flap the cat genuinely fits — and both fitting routes in this guide follow them.
The tower problem: cats, balconies and sealed glass
A cat flap in an apartment is not the same job as a flap in a wooden front door. Balcony doors in Sharjah’s towers are aluminium-framed glass, and the glass is tempered, so it cannot be cut in place. The flap has to arrive already fitted — either in a slim insert that sits in the balcony door’s track, or in a factory-made replacement glass panel built to your door’s exact measurements.
In practice, the request behind most tower enquiries is the litter tray. Moving it to the balcony frees the bathroom or utility corner inside, keeps litter smells out of the living space and gives the cat a private, ventilated spot she can reach at 3 a.m. without waking the household. The second driver is simpler: many indoor cats plainly want the fresh air and the vantage point, and a cat with balcony access is a cat less interested in the front door every time it opens.
There is also the question of what the cat is reaching. A balcony flap only makes sense where the balcony itself is a safe, enclosed space the cat is allowed to use — for litter trays, a shaded resting spot or fresh air under supervision. We will always ask what the flap is for before recommending a fitting, because the right answer for a ground-floor flat with a walled terrace is different from a high floor where the balcony should stay a viewing spot only.
Cat flap installation Sharjah: the two fitting routes
For sliding balcony doors, the usual route is an insert: a narrow aluminium-framed panel carrying the flap, made to sit in the existing track beside the door. As standard it is finished in white aluminium with clear glass, and it can be powder-coated to a custom RAL shade to match your building’s frames, which takes 2–3 days.
For fixed balcony panes or single openable doors, the flap is fitted in a replacement glass panel. The new unit is fabricated complete — tempered glass with the flap mounted — then swapped for your original panel, which is stored safely for the day you move out.
Both routes are planned through our scheduled weekly Sharjah visits: WhatsApp photos of your balcony door first, measurements taken on the scheduled visit, then fabrication and fitting.

Rental-friendly by design
Most Sharjah apartment cats live in rented homes, so reversibility is the whole point. With an insert, nothing about the door changes at all — the panel lifts out of the track at the end of the tenancy. With a replacement panel, your original glass is stored and swapped back in about 30 minutes when you move out. Either way, no landlord NOC is needed, because the door you hand back is the door you were given.
This is also why we never recommend cutting a rented door or drilling frames in a tower flat. The methods above give the cat its freedom and give you your deposit back.
Choosing the flap itself
Microchip flaps from SureFlap and PetSafe read your cat’s own implanted vet chip — the 15-digit ISO FDX-B chip — and open only for her. In blocks where stray and neighbours’ cats roam the corridors and balconies, that selective entry is usually what apartment owners are really buying.
Manual flaps are simpler and suit indoor-only cats whose balcony is fully enclosed. PetSafe makes manual models alongside its microchip range.
Closer Pets flaps are supplied as manual four-way locking models only, which let you set the flap to in-only, out-only, fully open or fully locked — useful for keeping a cat in overnight in a Muwaileh apartment close to the street.
Whichever type you choose, sizing follows one rule: any cat over 4 kg needs a Large flap. That covers most British Shorthairs, Ragdolls and Maine Coons, breeds that are common in Sharjah’s towers and far too broad for a standard cat flap.
Frequently asked questions
Will my landlord allow a cat flap in a rented Sharjah flat?
Because nothing is cut or altered, there is normally nothing to object to — the original glass is either untouched (insert) or stored and refitted at move-out (replacement panel). No landlord NOC is needed for either method.
My balcony door is one big fixed pane. Can a flap still be fitted?
Yes, via a replacement panel. We fabricate a new tempered glass unit with the flap fitted, swap it for your original pane and store the original safely until you ask for it back.
My cat weighs 5 kg. Which flap does she need?
A Large flap. Cats over 4 kg — including most British Shorthairs and Ragdolls — are too broad across the shoulders for a standard flap, and a cat that has to squeeze will quickly stop using it.
Will other cats from the building get in?
Not through a microchip flap. SureFlap and PetSafe microchip models open only for chips they have learned — your cat’s own vet chip — so unchipped strays and neighbours’ cats stay outside.
How do I book a fitting in an Al Majaz or Al Qasimia tower?
Send photos of your balcony door on WhatsApp, including the track and the full door from inside. We assess the route from the photos, then measure and fit on our scheduled weekly Sharjah visits.
