Finding a pet door Business Bay landlords will accept is the first hurdle in this part of the city — the second is finding one that works at all. Pet door Business Bay: fitting a tower balcony

Business Bay’s residential towers run the full range — compact studios and one-beds along the canal, larger family flats further back — but the balcony door is consistent: an aluminium sliding system, usually in white or dark frames. Downtown adds the Boulevard towers and the older low and mid-rise buildings near the mall, with a similar sliding-door arrangement and rather stricter building management.

In both districts the standard fitting is a sliding track insert. A panel is made to measure for your door’s track, the flap is built into it, and the door keeps sliding and locking on the remaining width. Your original glass is never cut or drilled. The balcony insert, explained

An insert is best thought of as a temporary section of wall for your door opening. It occupies part of the doorway, the flap gives your pet their own passage through it, and the whole panel is removable in minutes. At the end of a tenancy it lifts out, and the door is exactly as the landlord handed it over — which is why the route is 100% rental-friendly and needs no landlord NOC.

Where a flat has a fixed glass panel rather than a slider — some Downtown layouts do — the alternative is a replacement glass panel fabricated with the flap opening formed before tempering. Your original glass is stored safely and swapped back in around 30 minutes when required. Both routes avoid the one thing you should never accept in a tower: cutting into the existing glass, which toughened glass cannot survive anyway.

A note on building rules

Rules vary between towers and management companies, and Downtown buildings in particular can be particular about balcony appearance. We do not invent rules for buildings we do not manage: check yours before booking. What we can promise is that the fitting changes nothing permanently and alters nothing structural, which is the strongest position from which to ask.

Sizing for tower pets

Business Bay and Downtown pets are mostly cats and small dogs, and the sizing rules are simple. Cats over 4 kg need a Large flap — a standard flap is a squeeze for a big cat, and squeezed cats boycott flaps. Small dogs are usually right in the Medium dog door at 23 × 35 cm; dog doors also run Large 28 × 45 cm and XL 36 × 65 cm for the rare big dog in a larger flat. Measure chest width and shoulder height, and size up if between sizes.
